NEW INTERVIEW: Our first interview with GENOCIDE (Yangon, Myanmar Brutal Death Metal), 24/6/2016


Band: Genocide.
Band Members: Myint Mo Kyaw (Main Vocal), Alice (Bass), Pyae Sone Thu (Guitars, Drums Programming), Phyo Wai Lin (Manager & Sound Engineer).
Band Genre: Brutal Death Metal.
Origin: Yangon, Myanmar.
Biography:
It all started out back in June 2013 as non extreme metal band until we met up and got an agreement with founder of Gloomy Sphere Records, Eric Lin aka Phyo Wai Lin, and since then we completely changed our music towards sub genre of extreme metal and stated ourselves as 100 percent Burmese Pure Brutality Assault…In the past, due to the lack of member commitment, money issues, and other members' lack of time, Pyae Sone Thu (Guitarist) and founder of Genocide decided to team up with Myint Mo Kyaw, and Alice and we three have been writing and releasing singles under Gloomy Sphere Records until now…We are currently in the studio with our music producer, Eric Lin (Phyo Wai Lin), and finalizing our much awaited EP and five heavy tracks will be included.

Kieran James: Hi, can you tell me the early history from the formation of the band up to now?
Pyae Sone Thu (founder / guitarist / bassist / lyricist / arranger GENOCIDE band): We formed in 2013 with vocalist Myint Mo Kyaw who was influenced by hip-hop and old school death metal. Then we were faced with money problems. We couldn't be active in those years. I write the whole material of the band and Myint Mo Kyaw writes most lyrics of the band. We added a new member named Alice in 2016. She is bassist.

KJ2: How is the response of people to your mini-albums / album / demos?
Most of the deathcore, metallic hardcore, and beatdown hardcore fans in our local area like our genre. And we have some fans from Indonesia.

KJ3: What are the most influential bands for you guys in playing music?
Our material is influenced mainly by Indonesian bands such as Jasad and Kaluman. And we are also influenced by other bands such as Digging Up, Undergod, Turbidity, Abominable Putridity, and Putrid Pile. 

KJ5: What are the lyrical themes?
The lyrical themes are about Murder, Brutality and Prophecy about what we are facing today.

KJ6: Are the songs you create using English or foreign lyrics?
Mostly we use Burmese language.

KJ7: Why do you all like to play old-school instead of deathcore or other modern styles?
I think old school genres like death metal and deathgrind have more skills than the modern-day music called deathcore... I think a beginner guitarist can easily train to play deathcore in one or two weeks but not deathgrind or death metal. 

KJ8: When did you first become fans of metal bands?
I became a metal fan when I was 13-years-old.

KJ9: What do you say to people who ask why you play western-style music?
Western music is more fresh, more creative, and more energetic.

KJ10: Do the wives and girlfriends of the personnel support what you are doing?
Nobody has supported me since I was young. I try by myself.

KJ11: What are the best and worst things about the community in your city?
The worst thing is that people hate brutal death metal in our local area but I meet with lots of Brutal death fans from our city... it's amazing, that is the good thing.

KJ12: What are your most memorable shows or experiences onstage?
Extreme Rampage was the most memorable show in my life because I met with lots of fans.

KJ13: Have you received any messages from the fans?
The first letter we received was from the Kaluman guitarist (Mr Dedra Digging). And he told me that he is pleased with our first promotion song.
