NEW INTERVIEW with PURE WRATH (Bekasi, ID. Atmospheric Black Metal/ Post-Black Metal), 24/3/17

Teguh Prasetyo (Interfectorment / Digging Up bands, Bandung Death Metal)1. Halo Januaryo apa kabar? Bisa anda ceritakan sedikit bagaimana awal terbentuknya ide membuat Pure Wrath?
Januaryo Hardy: Kabar baik sekali. Pure Wrath adalah side-project saya sejak pertengahan 2014. Saat itu saya sedang menyelesaikan album pertama Perverted Dexterity, saya terbiasa membuang rasa jenuh ketika menggarap album dengan cara membuat album lain, sehingga terbentuklah Pure Wrath.

2. Bagaimana anda mendeskripsikan Pure Wrath?
Pure Wrath adalah project musikal paling "let it flow" yg pernah saya ciptakan. Semua unsur yg ada; elemen musik, lirik, konsep tematik, hingga audibilitas desain soundnya adalah mencerminkan diri saya apa adanya.

3. Berapa lamakah proses pengerjaan album Ascetic Eventide?
Proses penulisan memakan waktu 2 tahun, termasuk beberapa kali ganti style dan eksperimen. Tapi setelah semua fix, tema didapat, konsep dan lirik selesai, proses rekaman memakan waktu 3 bulan. Yaitu September hingga Desember 2016.

Terima kasih banyak!

12. Terimakasih banyak untuk waktunya, sukses terus untuk Mas Januaryo.
Sama sama. Sukses untuk Busuk Webzine.

NEW INTERVIEW: Our first interview with GORE INFAMOUS (Bandung Death Metal, Indonesia)

My interview with GORE INFAMOUS (Bandung Death Metal)
Interpretation by: Teguh Prasetyo (bassist INTERFECTORMENT band)
Date: 12 July 2016 @ SERAK store, Jalan Cihampelas, Bandung
GORE INFAMOUS is: Redra (vocals), Egi Devoid (guitar), Fredy (bass), and Wawan (drums).

Teguh Prasetyo (bassist Interfectorment band): Please tell us about the new formation.

Egi Devoid (guitarist Gore Infamous): There have been two changes to the line-up since 2012 as follows: Firstly, the drummer (Asep) left. Wawan became the new drummer. Secondly, in 2013, Budi came in to fill the bass. After Budi left Fredy came in during 2016 so Fredy is still a new member.

Teguh: The band is about to release the new single. Please tell me about the new single.

Egi: We released the single called: “Bacterium Cerebrum Infectus”. It was released at the end of 2015 by Hadeath Records. For this single it is a little bit different to the old concept. There is more variation in the musical style and there is a more powerful style of guttural.

Kieran James (Busuk Chronicles): What is the next plan for the band?

Egi: We will have a launching party for the new video-clip. It is the same single but we make a video-clip for it. The launch will be to promote the new video, the new line-up, and the new musical style of Gore Infamous. We shot the video at an abandoned hospital which has been abandoned for 20 years. The video shooting is finished. Also in the new musical concept of Gore Infamous we will be wearing masks. First we just made the masks for fun. Then the reaction from the fans was good and so we decided to keep wearing masks. The masks are similar to The Berzerker from Australia. We wear the masks along with costumes (laboratory / medical concept).

Cadaver in Methodical Overture (NSE) (2012)
KJ: Is there any plan for a full-length album?

Egi: After the launching party for the video we will start to focus more on the new album. Now we are playing gigs and doing other things so we cannot focus on the new album now. We hope it will be completed by the end of the year 2016.

Teguh: Which record label will release the full-length album?

Egi: It will still be released by New Standard Elite (NSE).

KJ: What about the musical style for the new album?

Egi: The style will still be the same brutal death style. However, there will be more musical variation (more riffs and less repetition). We can find the blueprint for the next album in the new single. We do not want to rush for the new album because we want everything to be perfect.

KJ: What are the good and bad things about the Bandung DM community?

Egi: The good thing is that every band supports all the other bands. The bad thing is that nowadays we have a lot of bands but it is expensive to make a gig. This is because of the hire charges for the venues.

GORE INFAMOUS: Redra (v), Wawan (d), Egi (g).
KJ: Favourite new bands in Bandung?

Egi: Interfectorment; and we still want to mention Bleeding Corpse because we like Bleeding Corpse. We also want to mention Guttural Disease.

Teguh: Why do you prefer your EP (Cadaver in Methodical Overture from 2012) and your new album to be released by a foreign label?

Redra (vocalist Gore Infamous): We were not planning to join the NSE roster at the first time. However, NSE was the first label to contact us. They were the first label which was interested to record and release our EP Cadaver in Methodical Overture. If the first label to contact us had been Indonesian we would have gone with them. This happened for the first EP. We wanted to release the music quickly. Now we have a contract with NSE.

Egi: NSE is in the process of reissuing the EP Cadaver in Methodical Overture.

Redra: At the first time Putra from Lumpur contacted us. He said Daniel [Osborn] from NSE was asking about Gore Infamous. At that time we only had two songs. We made a realistic goal of just making an EP instead of a full album. We were very shocked too because we were contacted by a USA label.

Teguh: The EP was released by NSE and is now out of stock and this is why Daniel is reissuing it. I think Daniel is a very strong supporter of Gore Infamous. For me the Gore Infamous single has taken brutal DM to the next [highest] level in Indonesia. I was very surprised that the music pattern was so complex. I don’t mean complex as in progressive things but complex within the context of brutal DM.

Bacterium Cerebrum Infectus (Hadeath) (2015)
Redra: Brutal DM for me means really paying attention to the detail and sweating. [Note: This word “sweating” was used on purpose because KJ was really sweating on this hot day in Bandung.] It takes a lot of strength to play this type of music. At least we get sweat not from exercise but from gigs and practising our music.

Teguh: They are quite funny guys. They made rehearsal videos using buckets and helmets on their heads. We don’t have to be too serious in the real-life like you said [Kieran] when you talked to me about Venom.

KJ: Your favourite drummer – do you choose Abaz or Papap?

Wawan (drummer Gore Infamous): Papap; he is a legend and very inspiring.

Egi: Another reason we use masks is that we want people not only to hear the music but to see the visual aspects of performance. We still keep our gory ways and so we use scary masks.

KJ: Who are your favourite guitar players in Bandung Death Metal?

Egi: Dedra Digging and Yayas (from Sedusa band).

Teguh: Favourite vocalists in Bandung Death Metal?

Redra: Andre Gila.

KJ: Why?

Egi Devoid and special friend Cindy Asmodeus
Redra: Very guttural and he has a trademark vocal sound. I also like Deddy from Interfectorment (ex-Asphyxiate / Cadavoracity).

KJ: Do you choose the old or new vocalist from Bleeding Corpse?

[All laugh because Ari Bejo of Bleeding Corpse was there that day with us at Serak Store.]

Redra: I prefer both [all laugh].

KJ: What is your message for the fans?

Redra: Keep doing positive things and stay away from drugs.

Wawan: Keep supporting your underground scene.

Egi: Keep doing something good and creative.

Cadaver full EP (2012):

NEW BLEEDING CORPSE INTERVIEW: "Luk Luk is a Bleeding Corpse person not a Kaluman person"

BLEEDING CORPSE 2016. Left to Right: Adrian Luk Luk (bass), Ari Bejo (drums), Yadi Behom (vox), and Uus Death (guitar).
My fourth interview with BLEEDING CORPSE (Bandung Brutal Death Metal)
Interpretation by: Teguh Prasetyo (bassist INTERFECTORMENT band)
Date: 12 July 2016 @ SERAK store, Jalan Cihampelas, Bandung
BLEEDING CORPSE is: Yadi Behom (vocals), Uus Death (guitar), Adrian Luk Luk (bass), and Ari Bejo (drums).
BLEEDING CORPSE discography:
1 Resurrection of Murder album, May 2008, Pieces Records; 1,000 copies CD sold out in six months, Line-up: Bobby (v), Adrian (b), Uus (g), Ari Bejo (d).
2 Condemned to Suffer album, August 2014, Groupies Merch; 1,000 copies CD sold out in one month, 500 copies cassette sold out in two weeks, Line-up: Behom (v), Adrian (b), Uus (g), Ari Bejo (d).

Kieran James (Busuk Chronicles): Why did Daniel join the band in 2012?

Ari Bejo (drummer, BLEEDING CORPSE): Daniel joined because Bleeding Corpse tried to make the new concept with two guitarists. However, he did not fit into the style of play of Bleeding Corpse.

KJ: Did former vocalist Bobby leave because Daniel joined?

Ari: Bobby left not because of Daniel but because he had other activities planned.

Teguh Prasetyo (bassist, INTERFECTORMENT band): Tell us about when Behom joined.

Ari: When Bobby left Behom joined in 2014 [note: this should perhaps be 2012 or 2013].

KJ: Did you record some songs with Bobby for the second album Condemned to Suffer?

Ari: We did not record any songs with Bobby’s vocals, only instrumental versions (unreleased demos).

KJ: Did Bobby write any lyrics for the album?

Ari: Bobby did not write any lyrics for the new album. Behom wrote all the lyrics for the new album.

Adrian, Kieran, Ari Bejo, Uus, Bobby, 8/10/2011
KJ: Cannibal Corpse had a song “Condemned to Suffer”, were you influenced by that song?

Yadi Behom (vocalist, BLEEDING CORPSE): No, they are very different.

KJ: Obscure Musick USA wanted to release your second album but now we hear this will not take place, what happened?

Behom: We had a miscommunication with Corey [Athos]. There was a misunderstanding with Corey. CTS was issued first by Atik from Groupies Merch. Corey and Atik (the album producer) had a disagreement. Now Obscure will not reissue the album due to the disagreement with Atik.

KJ: What was the disagreement about?

Behom: We think it is better to be issued by a local label. It depends on Atik whether the album will be reissued or not. Corey had a concept and Atik had a different concept.

KJ: Is it a good idea to get a reissue by an overseas label?

Teguh: It is not cheap to reissue; it is quite expensive to do a good job of it and sometimes the label can’t afford that. The exchange rate – rupiah to US dollar – makes it expensive for us.

KJ: Are you happy with Groupies Merch?

Behom: We are quite happy with Groupies because Bleeding Corpse wants to just keep making music. Groupies Merch can accommodate that.

Uus Death (g), Yadi Behom (v), Ari Bejo (d).
KJ: Why did you choose Groupies Merch and not Extreme Souls Production (ESP) in the beginning?

Behom: Atik was the first man to contact Bleeding Corpse. Bleeding Corpse was the first Groupies’ release. We decided to join with Groupies because Atik contacted us first. When a band has material ready they want to immediately release the music.

Teguh: Tell us about the recording process.

Behom: Recording, mixing, and mastering took three months in total.

KJ: How many copies did the CD sell compared to the first album?

Ari: 1,000 copies for the second album all sold out within a month. The first album was 1,000 copies too and sold out within six months.

KJ: How about the cassette release for the second album?

Ari: It was released by Bomet Records; 500 copies sold out in two weeks.

KJ: Why does Bleeding Corpse have fewer shows these days than before? Is it because Luk Luk is now very busy with Kaluman?

Ari: Luk Luk prefers Bleeding Corpse over Kaluman if they play at the same time. As you know Luk Luk is a Bleeding Corpse person and not a Kaluman person.

Teguh: Tell us about the album concept.

Behom: The first concept of the lyrical style was helped by Andri Gila. I did not initially feel familiar with gore-style lyrics. I am also in Rottenatomy band which has social and political type lyrics.

Yadi Behom (v) and Ari Bejo (d)
Teguh: What is happening with Rottenatomy?

Behom: The guitar player studies in the school in Germany and we have no drummer now. The band still exists but it is not active. We are waiting for a new drummer who can suit the Rottenatomy style.

KJ: Why do you not write social and political lyrics for Bleeding Corpse?

Behom: No, they do not match the image of Bleeding Corpse.

Ari: About Condemned to Suffer, it is not the same as the first album because we focused more on the harmonies. It feels darker than the first album. We are trying to grow up in our music and experiment. There is a lot of crossing technique.

KJ: Did Daniel play on the second album?

Ari: No, he had already left. All of the arrangements were made by Uus and Luk Luk.

Uus Death (guitarist, BLEEDING CORPSE): We mixed the new-school and the old-school. We got influenced by Black Metal too. Because we are old men we are getting quite tired [laughs] but we are still Florida Death Metal people. I love Florida Death Metal. We are heavily influenced by Florida Death Metal and by Thrash Metal (Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, and Exodus).

KJ: What was the reaction of the fans to the second album?

Ari: The fans’ reaction was very positive. You can see that from the selling out of the album within one month.

KJ: What are the next plans for the band?

Ari: We plan to make an EP next and a music video for a song taken from the CTS album. The song will be “Konspirasi Ajal”. We don’t have any label yet for the EP. We will start to make the material in August 2016.

Uus: I hope that Bleeding Corpse will continue to progress into the future. I hope that I can play in Europe.

Ari: After the EP will start preparing the third album. The reason why we want to make an EP first is that we want to introduce the new concepts and the new songs. The third album will be different from the CTS album; we will change all the guitar effects. We already have the concept for the EP.

Uus: We will stay in the DM roots but with more complex riffing patterns.

KJ: Is your grindcore band Death Womb Existence still active?

Uus: Yes.

KJ: Do you still play songs from the first album Resurrection of Murder at live shows?

Ari: We still play two or three songs from the first album.

KJ: Is there enough money earned from the band activities to support your living?

Ari: We get money from the music but it is not enough for our living. I have a shop [SERAK store, Jalan Cihampelas, about 50 metres from the KFC but on other side of the road] and so does Uus. Behom has an online shop.

Uus: Can you please pray for me to get girlfriend or wife? I hope some girl will read this interview and get interested! I definitely want to get married.

Kieran James and Uus Death
KJ: Do you prefer metal chick or religious girl?

Uus: I prefer metal chick but actually I don’t mind.

Teguh (semi-seriously only): Do you want to be bassist for Digging Up? [Note: Teguh was formerly the bassist for Digging Up.]

Uus: No, because I am already in too many bands.

KJ: What is your message for the fans?

Behom: Just wait for our next release.

Ari: Thank-you for buying our second album.

Uus: Keep up playing your music.

Ari: Just wait for our next release.

Uus: Don’t follow only the fashions, f*** posers. Buy the CDs, get the soul from the songs!
