CD REVIEW: INTERNAL LEPROSY (Phils) - "Judicial Blasphemy" EP (2016), by Hendra Yuwono, 8/11/16

Internal Leprosy - EP. Judicial Blasphemy (2016)
Country : Philippines
Genre / Style : Death / Thrash metal (Brutal! Raw! Old school!)
One of the most brutal and barbaric death/thrash releases from Philippines, and I believe that these guys will take you for a walk down the memory lane in the early 90s, with their barbaric raw music and sound. It has been 3 days since I started to listen to these crazy bastards' EP Judicial Blasphemy, and shit man they are really mean! From the lyrics you can feel the absolute anger, hatred, and maliciousness!!! And the music here is simply DESTROY ANYTHING IN FRONT OF THEM, is that too much to say about this album? Nope it is what it is and you can trust me and listen to the album and find out for yourself that I know what i talk about here. From the first track until the last you will be repeatedly pummeled by an intense death-thrash attack that absolutely gives you blows to your face and your fucking guts!!! The tempo is upbeat, with lots of tight fast riffs and downright thrashiness that reminds you to SOLSTICE, DEMOLITION HAMMER, and all the 90s death-thrash heroes. And of course the sound on here really cant be understated, they are raw as shit, and brutal, and that's how I like my sound for my metal right, cause you can feel the passion in all their songs. It has been 3 days since I started to listen to this EP and still i cannot stop headbanging to the songs. It is freaking awesome!!! And I like everything about this album, and they have set the bar so high and i hope they can keep it up for their full album (LP) and I hope it is just around the corner so everyone can feel the anger of these 3 loco amigos: King Ingalla, Arron Arcilla Villanueva, Paulo Culala...[By Hendra Yuwono for Busuk Chronicles.]

NEW INTERVIEW: Our first interview with PULVERIZED (Manila, Philippines Death Metal), 17/10/16 (English)

Kieran James (Busuk Chronicles)1: Hi, can you tell me the early history from the formation of the band up to now? Answer: It all started early /late 2015 when the band here called "Inhuman Perversion" decided to split up because of the certain issue about its lead vocals resulting in split. I already come with them in rehearsals and do a vocal trippings and because of that we gino (guitarist) and philip (drums) have an interest in doing more than what they do because they were formerly a brutal slam band and we want a more brutal style with a blast. Pulverized were formed and our first rehearsal went successfully and so we exist until now. KJ2: How is the response of people to your mini-albums / album / demos? Answer: We got an opportunity on 24 March 2016 to release a 4 track EP called Realm of Sufferance (3 original compositions and 1 cover from Defeated Sanity titled "Engulfed In Excruciation" from Chapters of Repugnance Album) which was released by Lyakot Productions Thailand. A lot have a good feedback and some negative points in the part of the record but still a lot purchase our EP.
KJ3: What are the most influential bands for you guys in playing music? Answer: Defeated Sanity, Putridity, Disgorge USA, Disentomb, Brodequin, Kataplexia, Liturgy, Heinous Killings and a lot from the bdm releases.
KJ4: What are your future plans for the band? Answer: Hopefully to release a full length in the future, play with our influence bands together, and a chance to play in asia hopefully or USA and europe!
KJ5: Are the songs you create using English or foreign lyrics? Answer: Yes we use english and we all help out to put all the songs together including lyrics.
KJ6: What are the lyrical themes? Answer: Death, Brutality, Serial killings, Doom etc specifically brutal death!
KJ7: Why do you all like to play old-school instead of deathcore or other modern styles? Answer: Brutal death metal for us is more unique from the insane riffs, blast parts of the drums (including snare ping madness haha) and the gutturals too. This genre is more interesting every time rather than deathcore or whatsoever cause it is all the same sound for me. We like goregrind, grindcore, death thrash and so on death metal related. Death metal rules!
KJ8: When did you first become fans of metal bands? Answer: It all started in high school when the uncle of my friend in my place introduced me to some deicide and vital remains songs because they have a band covering "Dechristianized" by Vital remains and a deicide song and it made me amazed and I got interested to search all about it.
KJ9: What do you say to people who ask why you play western-style music? Answer: We just tell that we do extreme stuffs and yet some are annoyed by this kind of music here but yeah there's a lot of metal bands here in the philippines and some of them are good and appreciate it.
KJ10: Do the wives and girlfriends of the personnel support what you are doing? Answer: Our girlfriends support us because they also listen to this kind of music but my parents are not haha! They call me son of the devil asking do I worship satan in that kind of noise, I can't argue because they don't know this loll...
KJ11: What are the best and worst things about the community in your city? Answer: Sometimes there are no limits on time in local gigs here meaning we're not like other countries that start early and end early because of the policy about that. Because here shows start at night and last till midnight but a lot of the time they end in the morning haha. Worst thing here is drugs idk much.
KJ12: What are your most memorable shows or experiences onstage? Answer: To play with all our brothers in brutality here and an experience to play with Perverted Dexterity (indonesia), Undead Daredevil (Japan) and Neuroticos (Japan) on 30th october. Worst that happen is our slot in a gig is moved even though we are already there in the venue and earlier than the organizers, it always happen all the time here with other bands, it's like a f***ing disease lolll
KJ13: Have you got any message for the fans? Answer: To all our supporters/friends here in the philippines and in the world: thankyou so much for supporting us since we were formed and to all who bought our cds. Maybe soon we will release new songs; just let's see what will happen. Cheers! Thank you too Mr.Buzuk for this and stay sick! For those who don't have yet our CDs just contact us through PM @ Facebook.com/PulverizedPh or through our label or check some of distro/labels outside the philippines.

NEW INTERVIEW: Our interview with INTERNAL LEPROSY (San Fernando Pampanga, Philippines DM)

INTERNAL LEPROSY band from San Fernando Pampanga, Philippines - new EP Judicial Blasphemy out now!
Kieran James (Busuk Chronicles)1: Hi, can you tell me the early history from the formation of the band up to now?
King (INTERNAL LEPROSY): It started back way back in between late 2008 and early 2009 when me and Paolo met. We were recruiting Paolo to do the vocal parts in our band that time. The band didn't work out and we both ended up good friends who share the same interests in music and so we decided to form Internal Leprosy. We wrote songs in Paolo's room and kept them until we found other members. There were line-up changes and people came and went until we set aside the idea of the band because we couldn't find the right people who would fit in perfectly. In 2012, I had a hardcore band. I had a few friends in the scene who put up shows and I decided to contact Paolo and proposed Internal Leprosy to bring it back. Paolo said yes and I made a post on Facebook announcing that we're looking for a drummer. Arron replied and we set up a meet and that was the start of it. Up to now we're still playing at gigs.
Arron: Paolo and King decide to form a band called Internal Leprosy. I saw their post on Facebook that they need a drummer. I left comment to that post. I said: “Can I try because I love to play heavy music?" We jammed after we met and I got the position for drums for the band up to this date.
Paolo: Internal Leprosy was officially formed December of 2014 but we started in 2009. There were a lot of line-up changes and a lot of rehearsing but drummers didn't work out for some reason during those times but it changed when Arron joined our team. He showed some perseverance for being a heavy metal fan and he always wanted to be a better musician and that is something that impressed us. Internal Leprosy began playing gigs after a few jam sessions.

KJ2: How is the response of people to your mini-albums / album / demos?
King: Well we haven't released our EP Judicial Blasphemy yet but we had two songs released online. One of those is "One Killing Nation" which I had made a DIY music video of. People responded very nicely about it and we're really thankful to those guys who supported us on that.
Arron: It’s amazing because they love our EP album in Mexico; they play our songs on their local online radio. Mexican people and Italy support our band and that’s our pleasure to serve them good music.
Paolo: Guys in Mexico were impressed with our EP. Mostly the fans there are fans of raw energy of death/thrash metal. We have no other plans but releasing our first EP for now.

KJ3: What are the most influential bands for you guys in playing music?
King: For me, my list is staggering but the main bands are of course: Slayer, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated and those grindcore and goregrind bands like Pig Destroyer and Waking the Cadaver just to name a few.
Arron: Deicide, Slayer, Kreator, Nile, Dying Fetus, Cannibal corpse.
Paolo: Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, any old style metal. I like the rawness of the old-school.

KJ4: What are your future plans for the band?
King: We want to tour and share our music with other countries and keep writing brutal music that metalheads would really enjoy Filipino style.
Arron: To have more albums and to share our music to other countries.

KJ5: Are the songs you create using English or foreign lyrics?
King: We decided to use English for everyone to grasp.
Arron: All of our songs are in English so other countries could understand the meaning of our songs.
Paolo: Since the English is the most recognized language in this planet we will use it to the world to express our thoughts about this f***ed up society and system! But I like to scream out loud using my local language as if the world could understand it, why not?

KJ6: What are the lyrical themes?
King: Gore, violence, horror, political views.
Arron: We are anti government. We kill all the people who abuse our society with our music. Our EP album entitled "Judicial Blasphemy".
Paolo: Gore, corrupt society.

KJ7: Why do you all like to play old-school instead of deathcore or other modern styles?
King: Originally we had that idea to be a brutal breakdown kind of a band but since our old-school influences were too strong and many kids out there were doing those heavy brutal breakdowns already we decided that we should just stick to the roots.
Arron: Old school is the best!
Paolo: For my own personal taste, I want to preserve the raw intense energy of old school metal; we’re not against their new movement. We just want to do the fury of old school style. We have no plans to soften our music. We want it that way as Internal Leprosy.

KJ8: When did you first become fans of metal bands?
King: I was a bit of a late bloomer actually. I grasp a lot of kinds of music. I was really into N.U. metal when I was in high-school so I think it started there.
Arron: Since I was in grade school. I browsed the internet for heavy songs until now I still do some searching to know different bands.
Paolo: When I was 16 I began listening to a lot of metal bands. That is my outlet and expression of my anger. I listened to Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse and Deicide at that time.

KJ9: What do you say to people who ask why you play western-style music?
King: We never really encountered that question before but I think it's not really labelled as Western Music anymore since many people around the world already made their different styles of music in their own ways and made their own style of metal based on which country they're from.
Arron: I don’t care about them. Change the topic or the conversation will end fast. Hahaha!
Paolo: Music is a general language for me. It doesn’t belong to any race. It’s a form of human expression with arrangement of notes.

KJ10: Do the wives and girlfriends of the personnel support what you are doing?
King: No because I don't have any as of now haha!
Arron: I don’t have a girlfriend. We’re all single but our friends support our music.
Paolo: I do not have any.

KJ11: What are the best and worst things about the community in your city?
King: The best thing? I think the food. From where we’re from the food is so good. The worst is that everyone is only paying attention to what they look like and what kind of material stuff they possess. That annoys me. The government is shitty, that's given but the people have no respect to one another that's why they couldn't find peace on anything. They always argue on small things and make those things a big deal.
Arron: The worst is crab mentality. The good is I don’t know.
Paolo: You mean metal community here in Philippines? Well the scene is still at a growing stage. I hope that metal will have a place here in terms of the industry.

KJ12: What are your most memorable shows or experiences onstage?
King: I think that was a show in our home-town where I think we are second to the last band to play and people really waited for us to play and they got so crazy when we got on stage and did our thing. The crowd was headbanging all throughout the set. We were new back then and we didn't expect that kind of support that time. It was flattering and awesome.
Arron: For me the Zambales (place in the Phiippines). We were the main band even if we aren’t that famous, the crowd treated us well. The love our music!
Paolo: Memorable? All of our gigs here are memorable. Good ones and bad ones.

KJ13: Have you got any message for the fans?
King: "Thank you" won't even touch the fact of how much they support us. We promise to keep getting better and make more songs. Thank you so much!
Paolo: For our fans out there keep supporting metal! Without you there is no audience to listen to us. You are the biggest part of metal empire!
Arron: Thank you so much..and keep supporting the underground metal scene.

KJ14: OK, thank you very much.
King: Thank you!
Arron: Thank you sir and more power.

NEW INTERVIEW: Our first interview with CEREBRAL CARNAGE (Bacolod City, Philippines Death Metal)

Kieran James1: Hi, can you tell me the early history from the formation of the band up to now?
Dairo Anthony (vocalist / ex-drummer, Cerebral Carnage): Cerebral Carnage is a Brutal death metal from Bacolod city Philippines existing since year 2007 and originally consisting of gennor (guitar) dave (bass) andrew (vocals) and dairo (drums). After writing five songs and practising, gennor, andrew, and dave were out of the band due to some schedule conflicts with their work. After three years my band searched for new members and we found macoi hulleza (guitars) julio enzo espelico (bass) masser amigos (drums) dairo (vocal). Since year 2011 we wrote two new songs "Fetus meat carnage" and "Chainsaw to utero vaginal whore". Macoi, enzo, and masser backed out because they had lots of personal problems in their lives. The band conducted an open audition for session players and we found jodd santillan (guitar) indai jixel (bass) and dalethrone parojillo (drums). After writing seven songs indai jixel left the band and focused on another band Kriterion. Jodd santillan backed out due to some schedule conflicts and focused on another band Nekroholocaust. Rawberto timbass joined the group filling guitar, viny dumalaog filled bass, and dalethrone parojillo (drums) and they added stability to the band after the month of practising. We self-released single promo entitled "Accumulation malignant whore and gutted".

KJ2:How is the response of people to your mini-albums / album / demos?
Keep listen to demo song and watch gig.

KJ3: What are the most influential bands for you guys?
I should say devourment, disgorge usa, human mastication, down from the wound, and pus vomit. This was when we started the band but we also have had lots of other musical influences though the years.

KJ4: What are your future plans for the band?
I want to release more albums and merch, and have more tour gigs.

KJ5: Are the songs you create using English or foreign lyrics?
We hope to do something with lyrics in English, it would better for me.

KJ6: What are the lyrical themes?
Killing, torture, horror, war, hate, violence, and sex.

KJ7: Why do you all like to play old-school instead of deathcore or other modern styles?
We don't dismiss modern styles of rock but the best is pioneer old school rock.

KJ8: When did you first become fans of metal bands?
I first discovered heavy metal playing Metallica on cassette tapes when I was 15-years-old.

KJ9: What do you say to people who ask why you play western-style music?
Our styles are all about speed, grooves, brutality and some technical approach in form of brutal death.

KJ10: Do the wives and girlfriends of the personnel support what you are doing?
Sure, we're constantly receiving marriage proposals from teen whores!

KJ11: What are the best and worst things about the community in your city?
The good thing is that the scene members always support each other's gigs. But the bad thing is it is a small brutal death scene here.

KJ12: What are your most memorable shows or experiences onstage?
One that stands out for me was a show we did in dumaguete city. It was the first time gig, the first song and I moshpit through the entire song.

KJ13: Have you got any message for the fans?
Keep your spirit, still brutal death.

KJ15: Do you think Phillipines underground scene can grow big like Indonesia?
Actually our base western visayas negros occidental Philippines has a small death metal scene. Because the biggest genres here are trash metal, black metal, old-school death metal, glam metal, metalcore, alternative, punk, hardcore, and heavy metal.

KJ16: What are your favourite Indonesian metal bands?
Asphyxiate and Perverted dexterity.
